Nuisances

Nuisances are knowingly creating anything which is injurious to public health or safety. Nuisance abatement enforced by the Code Enforcement officer includes weeds, trash and inoperable vehicles.

GRAFFITI
Graffiti is defined as any unauthorized inscription, word, figure, painting or other defacement that is written, marked, etched, scratched, sprayed, imprinted, drawn, painted, or engraved on or otherwise affixed to any surface of public or private property whether real or personal, by any graffiti implement, to the extent that the graffiti was not authorized in advance by the owner of the property, or despite advance authorization, is otherwise deemed a public nuisance by the city council.

If a property has graffiti, municipal code requires the property owner to remove or abate it within 3 business days of the placement of the graffiti. If the graffiti is not abated as required by notice from the city, the city is authorized to enter the property for abatement. If the graffiti contains or depicts an obscenity, the 3 day notice is not required and the city is authorized to immediately enter the property for abatement.

The city has enacted the graffiti ordinance in an effort to combat the spread of this deplorable practice. The most effective way to halt the spread of graffiti is to immediately remove or abate it. Your cooperation will go a long way towards keeping our neighborhoods graffiti-free.

OBSTRUCTION OF STREETS AND ALLEYS
It is unlawful to hinder persons passing along a street, sidewalk or public way; or to place or erect upon any public way an obstruction of any type except temporary barriers or warning signs placed for the purpose of safeguarding the public against any hazard.
