QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess all of the skills
and abilities listed under this section on the job description to be considered
for this position.

One-year experience with accounts payable.
-
Typing at 50 wpm on computer.
-
10 key calculator by touch.
-
Basic office, computer and bookkeeping
skills.
-
Experience with Word, Excel and Access.
-
High school diploma or GED.
-
Valid New Mexico driver’s license.
DUTIES:
This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not
intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in
the classification.

Settle all accounts payable owed by the City
of Artesia.
-
Resolve discrepancies with invoices and
purchase orders.
-
Resolve discrepancies with vendors through
Purchasing Agent.
-
Data entry of information for payment.
-
Prepare accounts payable reports.
-
File all accounts payable documents.
-
Prepare IRS 1099 forms to vendors.
-
Open mail utility payments, verify and post
utility billing. Run reports for mail receipts.
-
City of Artesia Health Insurance Clerk.
-
Maintain all financial information for
current employees under the City Health insurance plan.
-
Maintain COBRA information and procedures
for terminated employees.
-
Act as liaison for the insurance committee.
-
Provide back up for cashier personnel.
-
Provide back up for telephone receptionist.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS and OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Possessing some or all of the skills and abilities listed in this section will
make a candidate more competitive.

Knowledge of principles and practices of
bookkeeping/accounting

Knowledge of automated accounts payable
system

Knowledge of governmental purchasing
practices
-
Knowledge of windows based computer system
including data entry, spreadsheets and word processing.

Ability to prepare accurate reports.
-
Ability to file accurately.
-
Knowledge of cashier functions.
-
Ability to operate a multi-line telephone
system.
-
Knowledge of COBRA and other state and federal insurance regulations
