JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

There are four positions available for:  Streets Equipment Operator II 

PAY SCALE:  CA13               Min                  Mid                  Max

                                                $1,988             $2,485             $2,982 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicant must posses all of the skills and abilities listed under this section on the job description to be considered for this position. 

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience equivalent to one (1) year of maintenance, construction and/or landscaping work involving the operation of small and medium size equipment. 
  • Must obtain a valid New Mexico Commercial Class B operator’s license or higher as soon as possible but no later than one year from date of hire.
  • Current New Mexico Commercial Class B operator’s license or higher preferred.
  • Must maintain New Mexico Commercial Class B operator’s license or higher.

DUTIES:  This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in the classification. 

  • Perform minor repairs on equipment and reports the need for major repairs, checks and maintains fluid levels, greases and lubricates moving parts as required and handles and transports fuel for equipment.

  • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled street maintenance tasks including: repairing city streets, alleys, potholes and sidewalks.
  • Patch potholes with cold mix and/or hot mix

  •  Clean up streets, alley maintenance.

  • Trim trees and mulch.

  • Painting by hand or machine stripes, symbols, lines, crosswalks, etc.

  • Chip seal roadways.

  • Hot mix construction of roadways.

  • Installation and maintenance of street signs and streetlights

  • Maintenance of traffic signals (changing bulbs and fuses).

  • Traffic control (barricades, flagging, etc.)

  • Clean up after storms.

  • Snow removal and salting.

  • Operate Street Sweeper as needed.

  • Spray streets, medians and sidewalks for weeds as needed.

  • Cleans and cares for tools and equipment.
  • May periodically operate heavy maintenance and/or construction equipment.
  • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual labor activities necessary to complete assigned projects.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS and OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:  Possessing some or all of the skills and abilities listed in this section will make a candidate more competitive. 

  • Knowledge of relevant traffic laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and materials used in street repair, maintenance and construction.

  • Ability to operate small to medium equipment.
  • Ability to receive and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in the safe operation and use of assigned equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work alone.
  • Ability to work with other departments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other applicable laws.
  • Ability to handle chemicals and pesticides safely.
