Sewer rates in Artesia are recalculated once per year in March. This yearly adjustment ensures accuracy and fairness in billing for all customers.

Calculation Method:

To determine your sewer rate, we use the average of your water consumption during the months of November, December, and January. Please note that these months may be subject to change at the discretion of the Infrastructure Committee if they believe that customers as a whole may benefit from an adjustment. These changes are not made for individual accounts.

Base Rate Criteria:

To maintain your sewer charge at the base rate, your average water usage for these critical months must be within specific limits. For customers located within city limits, the average should be 7,000 gallons or less. For those outside city limits, the threshold is set at 6,000 gallons or less.

Addressing Water Leaks:

If you experience a water leak during any of these months, we encourage you to contact us immediately. We will provide you with information on what is needed to prevent this excess usage from affecting your sewer     rate for the upcoming year.
